Saab Number Plates

Saab Automobile AB, or simply Saab to most people, was a Swedish manufacturer of cars founded in 1945. Over its active years, Saab had relationships with the likes of General Motors and Dutch supercar manufacturer Spyker.

Unfortunately, Saab was forced to file for bankruptcy in 2012 after several years of financial uncertainty, which was contributed to by the seemingly consistent change of ownership.

However, Saab still remains a popular brand to this day, despite it not having been possible to buy a new Saab for nearly a decade. For example, the Saab 900, produced between 1978 and 1998, was one of the Swedish manufacturer’s most popular models. It sold nearly one million units, making it Saab’s best-selling model ever.

In terms of marketing, many people will remember Saab’s famous advertisements which compared their cars to their successful aircraft models, such as the Saab JAS 39 Gripen fighter jet. Saab often played on their history in the aerospace sector to sell their cars, and often combined it with their proud safety record, using slogans such as “A Saab will surrender its own life to save yours”, “The Swedish Car with Aircraft Quality” and “The Command Performance Car”.

Some people may also remember Saab-Scania, the manufacturer of heavy goods vehicles. The company split in 1995 back to its roots of Saab and Scania-Vabis.
